A Game of Dots

Hello 4-H Friends,

Enjoy today’s 4-H Weekly Wednesday Activity, A Game of Dots.

For some, you’ll remember playing as a kid.  For others, welcome to this fun game of connecting the dots through a series of turns.  The person who connects the most dots, creating the most squares wins.  Sounds simple at first but the competition will soon set in.

Please forward and share as you are able.

“To Make the Best Better,”
Chris aka Mr. L

4-H Weekly Wednesday Activity, Birthday Parties Logic Puzzle

Enjoy this week's 4-H Weekly Wednesday Activity, Birthday Parties Logic Puzzle. We’ve been using Logic Puzzle as part of our 4-H Teen Leadership program with great success. A couple suggestions they’d recommend is using an X for those incorrect boxes and a  for those correct. Email pulaskicounty4-h@vt.edu for the Answer Key. Good Luck!

2021 4-H Embryology Chickees graduate, moving on to E & E Eggs

Seven PCPS 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms, four 4-H families and the Pulaski County Extension Office successfully hatched 63 chicks of 90 eggs set, a 70% hatch rate. This is great. We had incubators in classrooms, homes, with kiddos, nonetheless, and we are very thankful, unlike last year’s great moving of incubators to teachers’ houses and the Extension Office when schools suddenly closed. So today our 2021 chickees graduate from their brooder totes and will be headed to E & E Eggs, Riner, Virginia, owned and operated by Emily and Erin, Pulaski County 4-H'ers and young entrepreneurs. Emily and Erin have been raising laying hens for many years, each year adding a new 4-H flock to their layers.  Follow us also on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/PulaskiVAExtension

2021 4-H Embryology Project - Lesson 1, Parts of an Egg

Cynthia Hurst and Chris Lichty from Pulaski County Extension Office had a great virtual 2021 4-H Embryology Lesson today with two third and three fifth grade classrooms along with two 4-H families. In today's lesson we learned 'How long it takes for a hen to lay an egg' and also 'The Parts of an Egg.' We finished our lesson with candling the eggs in the Extension Office Incubators, teachers in their classrooms and 4-H'ers in their homes. Enjoy the video clip of a fertile egg from one of the Extension Office Incubators. Notice the blood vessels in this egg and the chick moving.
