PCHS 4-H Club makes Homemade Ice Cream

The Pulaski County High School 4-H Club made Homemade Ice Cream today, Wednesday, September 6, as part of their meeting.  A great treat and a great afternoon with friends.

4-H Homemade Ice Cream Recipe

1 cup of low-fat milk (1%)
1 cup half and half, whole milk or heavy whipping cream
½ cup of sugar
½ tsp. vanilla extract

nuts or fresh fruits as desired
sprinkles and syrup as desired
ginger snaps, graham cracker, or sugar cookies as desired

1.    Combine ingredients in a quart Ziploc freezer bag.

2.   Pack crushed ice around the freezer bag.  Pour ¾ cup of table salt evenly over ice.  Place inside a 3-pound coffee and then place a piece of plastic wrap over can and then a tight fitting lid.

3.   Roll back and forth on a table or floor for 10-15 minutes.

4.   Remove lid and check for consistency.  If not firm enough, drain water from can, add more ice and salt, replace lid and roll 5 minutes more.

Serve with graham crackers, gingersnaps or whole wheat sugar cookies.
